What Changed in AI, Defense, and Your Chance to Win $3,000

July was the month AI stopped waiting for instructions and started completing tasks on its own. The world’s top accelerator put defense at the top of its wishlist, and two of our portfolio companies had a very good month. Here’s the Sigma Software Labs digest.

Defense Tech Isn’t Niche Anymore

Y Combinator – the accelerator behind Airbnb and Stripe – publishes a list of startups it wants built. This year’s list includes a request from a sitting US Secretary of the Army: drones and sensors for ground combat. It’s a sign of how mainstream defense tech has become – something we’ve been building toward for years in Defence Builder.

Buntar Drones Fully Remote Piloting

Combat drones lose connection constantly – jamming, terrain, distance. Buntar Aerospace built Remote Control directly into Buntar Copilot, with independent streams for video, telemetry, and logs, so one failing channel doesn’t take down the rest. The easy route was wrapping third-party remote access tools. They took the harder one, because that’s what survives a mission.
See how it works.

Season 2 of the AI Product Ideas Contest is open 🦄

Season 1 turned everyday frustrations into real tools – some of them now running inside Sigma Software. It proved the best ideas don’t come from job titles; they come from people close to the problem. Season 2 is open. Got something that annoys you every week? That’s usually where the product is.
