Legal Nodes, a tech-enabled legal advisory firm from our Sigma Software Labs portfolio, has launched Legal Brain Academy. The team will teach other lawyers what it has learned from a year of building AI agents for its own legal work.
From answers to completed tasks
At the beginning of 2025, Legal Nodes started testing AI agents in its daily legal work. As the team puts it: “Assistant AI gives you an answer. Agentic AI gives you a completed task.” To complete a task, an agent needs the right context – knowledge, instructions, memory, and tools. “The better the context, the fewer iterations an agent needs to complete the task successfully,” the team explains.
Building this context is called context engineering. Over the past 12 months, Legal Nodes has turned its experience into Legal Brain, its own context engineering framework for legal AI agents. Legal Brain Academy is the next step: an education program built on this framework. Its free online course is open to 20 early-career lawyers and recent law graduates, who will build a contract drafting and review workflow in Claude, the AI assistant developed by Anthropic. Applications are open until September 20.
This work comes at the right time for the profession. AI use among legal professionals jumped from 19% to 79% in one year, according to Clio’s 2024 Legal Trends Report.
Legal Nodes and Sigma Software Labs
Legal Nodes was founded in Ukraine in 2018 to make legal support easier for companies that operate across borders. We backed the startup because of its team, one of the strongest in Ukrainian legal tech. In August 2021, we joined its $300,000 pre-seed round, led by the LIFT99 angel syndicate, when our fund still operated under its former name, Inspirium Laboratories.
Since its early days, the startup has built a strong track record:
- Winner of the IT Arena Startup Competition 2019
- Graduate of Techstars London and the Google for Startups Accelerator
- Clients in more than 20 countries
- Co-founder Margaryta Sivakova named to Forbes Europe’s 30 Under 30 in Technology in 2024
