Sigma Software Labs was one of the participants of the Berlin Security Conference 2024, which took place on 19-20 November. This year’s conference was dedicated to the impact of 1000 days of full-scale war in Ukraine and its influence for the EU and NATO ecosystem. The event brought together more than 140 noted speakers from politics, the military, business, and civil society, as well as representatives of national parliaments, from the European and non-European countries, the European institutions, and NATO. It is a great honour to be one of the few who attended the conference.
The conference also included the Startup Challenge that was a flagship event designed to boost innovation in the defence sector organized by the PwC Deutschland with Possible Digital, Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub and Bitkom as coordinators.

This year, 10 innovative startups presented their solutions in DefenceTech and Dual Use. The winners in the ‘Software Defined Defence’ and ‘Drones’ categories became:
- PLENO: Develops an operating system to control UAVs.
- filancore: Creating a platform for decentralised identity and access management.
The winners, Nino Lindenberg from PLENO and Markus Soppa from filancore, had the opportunity to present their innovations on the main stage after the challenge.
After 2 intense days of the conference, Daria Yaniieva, Investment Director at Sigma Software Labs, underlined that we are entering an era where the number of weapons is not the only factor we can rely on during war. Instead, smart technologies and technological advancements first.
‘Supporting defence innovations today means contributing to global safety, and the Ukrainian frontline experience is already setting world-class Defence Tech innovations,’
said Daria Yaniieva, Investment Director at Sigma Software Labs.
We would also thank to Prof. Dr Rainer Bernnath, Senior Partner, Strategy & Industry Leader Government & Public Services at PwC, Anna Len Homann, Senior Managerin at PwC Deutschland and the all PwC Deutschland team for the invitation and the opportunity to join the important discussions.
